The Apo View Hotel is the first hotel in Davao City. And now, after 65 years since it opened its doors, the Apo View Hotel is growing bigger and better.

It is now run by Chris Pamintuan, a 3rd generation member of the Pamintuan clan. The Apo View Hotel has always been a family enterprise. But this family is an extended one as Apo View Hotel and its management considers its loyal employees and clients as part of their family, as well.

One luxury we have here in Davao is our proximity to the ocean and the beach. The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) is around 10 minutes to 1 hour away depending on which part of the island you’re going to and from which wharf you’re coming from. One islet that belongs to IGACOS is the Vanishing Island.

Remember when former Binibining Pilipinas Universe Charlene Gonzales was asked how many island there are in the Philippine archipelago? And she answered with “Low tide or high tide?” I’m not too sure if she was talking about the IGACOS Vanishing Island but it is one of those islands that vanish during high tide. When we went there for the Davao Food Appreciation Tour, it was before lunch time and the tide was still low. Lookie…

The 2012 edition of the famed Davao Food Appreciation Tour (DFAT) had its opening salvo at the Ranchero. The Filipino-inspired restaurant served up a delectable assortment of Filipino merienda dishes.

The merienda opened with fresh and fried lumpia and pancit canton. There were also servings of the classic Filipino merienda dish dinuguan with, of course, puto (rice cake).
